Adrienne has organised one week´s Physical Exercise Classes for 3-5 year old children that are living in the Eglinton for one week in mid-July. Well done Adrienne!
The Stretch & Grow classes will take place in Scoil Einde on Threadneedle Road Salthill, only a few minutes walk from the Eglinton.
There are only a limited number of places available. So if you are interested, please immediately leave your name and details of your child as a message at the Eglinton reception marked for the attention of Carole Raftery

'Galway Circus Project' for Children

There is a great opportunity now for parents of Eglinton to enhance the creative artistic skills of their children by having them enrol in the Galway Circus Project organised by our good friend (& brilliant clown!) Karen who did so much previously to ensure the success of our Halloween and Christmas parties.
Classes will take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Children have to be eight years or older.

The Galway One World Centre

The Galway One World Centre,(GOWC) is a development eductation centre "It's vision is to work towards creating an inclusive society where power and resources are justly shared where people live with dignity, freedom and self-determination."

Human beings have a profound need to belong, to feel connected to this world but racism by its nature works against mutuality and respect for our differences. This musical project will be set up not only to look and name our differences but celebrate our differences.
The GOWC recognizes that people need their story heard and their culture respected and recognized if we ! are to have an intercultural community in Galway.

AIM
To recognise, celebrate and promote the diversity in our community. To address the barriers that ger in the way of treating every human being as unique and deserning of respect.

Target Groups:
People from different cultural background including Black Irish, White Irish African/Asian, and European.

Time Scale:
There will be two musical sessions a week at three hours a session.
Project duration will be one year
Commences in September 2006

Ojectives:
To bring together people from different backgrounds to create a musical performance based on their own story.

To organize an anti-racism awareness training for the participants to understand, examine and challenge racism together.

To create an arts performance which is available to the Galway community.

The Friends Club apologies for the cancellation of the club for the last few weeks. They have been met to try and make sure that the club is bigger and better for everyone. So please come along to the following metting:

Friends Club

'There are my friends wait me always.'

Based in Leisureland, Salthill, the Friend's Club was founded for
children of refugees and asylum seekers between the ages of 4 to13 who live
in the Eglinton Hotel.

The members of this club organize various activities for children that
are resident in the Englinton Hotel. They collect the children from our
Hotel every Monday evening. While at Leisureland, the children go
swimming or play football, rugby and tennis. The youngest draw and create
many kinds of handmade crafts. All children are very happy and they are
waiting impatiently for the next meeting.

The club also organizes weekend events such as excursions, the latest
one to Clonmacnoise, a site of great historical interest and an area of
conservation. Other weekend activities have included trips to the
theatre and public readings, as well as participation in the Macnas Arts
Festival Parade. The Friend's club will also participate in the planned
Halloween Parade later this year.

The Friend's club is not only for children. The Committee of the
Friend's Club has decided to help the adults too. In a pilot project in
January 2006, the Friends Club invited all those from the Western and
Eglinton Hotels interested in learning English and topics of Irish Culture.
The organizers of this project include Mairead O'Connor, Ciara Bradley,
Paul Carroll, Javi Gimenez, Sara Mas Gil, Claire Healy, Lauren
O'Loughlen and David O'Keeffe. They prepared and held many interesting and
useful classes for us. Some of the topics discussed include the History of
Ireland, its Nature, Irish Sport, the Educational system, Irish
legislation, etc. All adults who completed those courses received Certificates
from the Friend's Club.

On behalf of residents of the Eglinton Hotel I wish to thank all
members of Friends Club for your help and support to us and our children.

With a great success and fun the course of physical activities for parents with children took place at the Eglinton Hotel.

Everybody enjoyed it and there were 12 participants and they learned alot of new activities and how to deal with your childern.

In the near future there will be another course with more new activities.

Galway Arts Festival for Children

On the western shores, a group of players came together to have a party. For one magical week spirits soared, as theatre, music and dancing filled the streets and thousands of children came out to welcome performers from distant lands. Baboró welcomes all children,and those who wish to keep alive memories of childhood, to be part of this celebration and join us for our tenth birthday party!

RAMADAN

In Islam, the ninth month of the Muslim year, during which all Muslims must fast during the daylight hours. Indulgence of any sort is forbidden during the fast. There are only a few who are exempt, e.g., soldiers, the sick, and the young. Because of the purely lunar calendar, Ramadan falls in different seasons. The final day of Ramadan, Id al-Fitr, is celebrated by a day of feasting. The first revelation of the Qur'an is commemorated in this month.

This year there will be a special festival for Ramadan in Eglinton Hotel start on September 24th and continue through out the month. There are about 25 Muslim in our Hotel.

We hope for the whole World a peaceful month. ( RADAMAN KAREEM).

The Teen Parent Programme is part of mainstream services provided by the HSE Western Region and is based on the Ground Floor, Nurse’s Home., University College Hospital Galway. The TPP provides a supportive service for young parents in Galway City and County who are aged under 20, during pregnancy and for up to two years following.

The overall aim is to empower young parents in their parenting role. The support is provided on an individual basis and covers a range of information and advice on health, welfare entitlements, childcare, accommodation options, family relationships, education and parenting.

The programme encourages young parents to develop any skills or areas of interest and motivates them to become involved in education/ training suited to their needs.

WORLD HEART DAY

World Heart Day Sunday 1 Oct 06 at 3.30pm
The Irish Heart Foundation is marking World Heart Day on Sunday, October 1st and asking you to get involved by organising a walk in the community or workplace.
last year approx. 280 walks were organized around the country with almost 7,000 people taking part. This year the message for World Heart Day in Ireland is 'how young is your heart?' and we are once again encourging people to get our walking with family and friends.

The computer room

The computer room will now be open for 2 classes per week specifically for the children (6-12 years)through out the school year.
For the 1st group the class will be every friday 7-8.30pm,while for the second group it will be every saterday 10-11.30am.
The adult classes are going on every Thursday and Friday according to the groups.

THE LIBRARY

Thanks to everyone who donated the books for Eglinton Hotel to establish our indoor library
and many thanks to the people who prepared the place and arranged the books.
The library consists of 2 sections, one for the adults and the other for the kids.
We hope that this new facility will be useful to the residents and we hope that the children will enjoy reading there books.

Family Trip to Ireland's National Aquarium

A free trip to Atlantaquaria for Eglinton Hotel residents took place on Tuesday August 29th. Atlantaquaria is Ireland's National Aquarium and has the country's largest selection of animal life found in its lakes, rivers and seas. With expert on-site tour guides, the experience was most particulary enjoyable to parents and children total (44), just a few days before schools re-open.Finally, the cost of the trip was paid for out of grants secured by Helena Heagney from the Reception & Integration Agency. THE ART CLASSES

The art classes are taking place in the hotels' pre-school room & operate on Tuesday & Thursday afternoons in the 3pm-5pm period by Huda Sabah to the children between 3-12 years old and these classes will continue through the school time every Saterday in the same time and this pictures is for one of the classes.

MONKEY BUSINESS TRIP

This picture is for the MONKEY BUSINESS trip, which took place today at 10am-12pm.
The 27 children had a great time and the 11 adult got an important information about the healthy nutrition. The event was sponsored by Women Health HSE West and the transport was funded by the RIA grant.
Every thing was well organized.

6 Weekly Computer Classes for Children!!!!!!

Thanks to the volunteering efforts of 10 adult Eglinton residents, the computer room will now be open for 6 classes per week specifically for the children (6-12 years).

There will be 2 user groups each of 5 children per class. Each group each will be allocated 3 classes weekly.

Sunday: 7.00-8.30pm supervised by Adil & Huda
Wednesday: 10.00-11.30am supervised by Dmitriy & Joy Samson

Huda Sabah, one of the residents of Eglinton Hotel, has kindly agreed to provide a series of art classes to children. The programme will take place in the hotels' pre-school room & operate on Tuesday & Thursday afternoons in the 3pm-5pm period
Well done Huda!!

The materials and equipment used were provided out of a grant secured by Helena Heagney of the HSE who has done so much to enrich our lives here in Galway.
If you are interested in having your children participate, please leave your name and room number for the attendtion of Huda at hotel reception. However, we also need you to attend the class as an assistant. While Huda will teach artistic skills to the young students, she cannot be expected to also act as classroom as supervisor

• Reading Tree starts July 3rd. Three different age-groups- 5 –7, 8 –10 and 11 +
• Story-time for 3 to 7 year olds will take place every Friday starting on June 2nd at 11.15.
• Stories from far and wide with Jonathan Gunning on Wednesday 5th July and on Thursday 24th August.
• Learn to juggle!! Make your own juggling balls and put them into practice! Thursday 6th July.
• Puppet shows for children under 6 years old on Monday 17th, Tuesday 18th, Monday 24th, Tuesday 25th, Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th of July.
• Yoga for 6 – 9 year olds and for 10+ on Monday 31st July.
• Arts and crafts will take place on Thursday 13th July, Thursday 20th July and Tuesday 15th August.
• Make your own ‘Devil Stick’ and learn to juggle on Wednesday 9th August– Suitable for 12+
